EVENTS
Stitch Social & Fabric Sale
Join Rethrindle and Rebel Patch at the Slow Fashion Studio for their monthly Fabric Sale and Stitch Social (always the 2nd Saturday of the month) at Sparks Bristol, 78 Broadmead, Bristol BS1 3DS.
Our reclaimed fabric shop will be open from 11am-4pm. Rummage through second-hand and reclaimed fabrics, trims and haberdashery and find materials for your next sewing project!
Come along to the stitch social anytime from 1-4pm; Stitch in community, exchange tips and techniques and have a natter with fellow sewists and creatives. Have a rummage through your mending pile or bring your latest embroidery project along. Meret and Lisa will be on hand to share tips and their favourite techniques.
This is your monthly chance to get creative in community and to get everything you need for your next project. We'll have some materials at hand for you to use, but you're welcome to bring your own as well.
The event is ticketed on a pay-what-you-can basis with a minimum for joining the stitch social. There's concession tickets available for anyone who needs it. This event is a collaboration between Rethrindle CIC and Rebel Patch, two small slow fashion organisations, aiming to make sewing inclusive and accessible to everyone. This is why we try to make our workshops as affordable as possible. Please consider what you can afford, because every pound more helps us create an accessible sewing/creative space.
Clothes Mending Drop-In Session (care & repair festival)
Learn how to repair and care for your clothes. Meret and Lisa will show you an array of different techniques to revive your worn and broken items. We’ll do darning, patching and embroidery using reclaimed fabrics and yarns. Whether you want to go subtle, repairing almost invisibly or you want to go bold and make your repair a creative statement is completely up to you.
This session is suitable for all levels of experience. Please bring an item of clothing along that you’d like to repair. This is a free drop-in session that runs from 3-6pm, drop in any time to join in.
This workshop is hosted by two local businesses:
Meret runs Rethrindle CIC, a social enterprise facilitating affordable mending and sewing workshops and repair services to encourage sustainable clothing practices. With her brand Rebel Patch, Lisa challenges clothing waste by creating limited edition art patches in collaboration with local artists to repair, upcycle and customise your clothes. Together they run the Slow Fashion Studio in Sparks. Sparks Bristol, 78 Broadmead, Bristol BS1 3DS.
Make your own festival epaulettes (Slow Fashion Saves the Day event)
Join Meret and Lisa from the Slow Fashion Studio in Sparks to make a pair of epaulettes - a must have accessory to transform any outfit into a creative and playful festival worthy get up. We will be bringing our stash of second hand materials including scrap fabrics, fringe trims, beads, rhinestones and tulle for you to get creative with and have fun. We will be hands on showing you basic hand sewing skills and techniques to make your epaulettes exactly how you want them to be. These will be super easy to add to any outfit via safety pins which means they can be used for many festival seasons to come.
This event is part of the ‘Slow Fashion saves the day’ event run by Team Love at Sparks, Bristol.

Tattoo your clothes
New workshop!
We will be using colourful loose wool and dry needle felting to tattoo our clothes with any motif you like. Dry needle felting is done by punching loose strands of wool onto fabric with a felting needle. This workshop is an introduction to needle felting and is a creative way of using wool to add texture, colour and personality to your clothes.
Colourful Sashiko
Sashiko, meaning 'little stabs', is a traditional Japanese stitching technique, used to mend and reinforce worn-out garments. In this visible mending workshop, you'll learn the basics of this traditional Japanese method of repairing and get the chance to mend one of your own pieces of clothing.
Sashiko is all about embracing the art of repair. It encourages us to make visible mends and wear them with pride! While traditionally done in indigo and white, we will use colourful threads and patches to make your pieces stand out. Bring an item in need of mending, all other materials will be provided.
Sashiko mending is best for holes and tears in woven fabrics and perfect for denim!
This workshop is a collaboration between Rethrindle CIC and Rebel Patch, two small slow fashion organisations, aiming to make sewing inclusive and accessible to everyone. This is why we try to make our workshops as affordable as possible. A limited number of concession spaces is available for each of our workshops. If you're looking to book a concession space but they're sold out, please contact us and we'll see what we can do. If you can, please consider getting a pay-it-forward ticket - every pay-it-forward ticket purchased enables us to offer another concession space for someone who needs it.
